IMET: Airlaid Pioneers

In 1978 IMET, which had already been operating in the medical sector for several years, was mainly specialised in the production of cotton wool.

In 1984, in response to a request from a customer, the company began to search for an alternative product to cloth towels. After many tests, the owner of IMET, Dettori Gianni, identified a raw material in dry paper, which was produced at the time by the company Miralanza (Ferruzzi Group), and began to produce towels to offer to customers, who started to test them in two different sectors: the food and beauty industries. This marked the beginning of IMET airlaid paper.

Today IMET produces airlaid articles dedicated to the beauty, hairdressing, wellness, health, HO.RE.CA and professional hygiene sectors. Products distributed both in Italy and abroad.

What Are Airlaid and Spunlace?

Airlaid and spunlace are hypoallergenic, soft, pleasant to the touch, highly absorbent and durable materials, ideal for professional use and wherever hygiene, convenience, comfort and maximum daily reliability are required.

Airlaid Production

Airlaid, is a product obtained through a unique technology that during the stages of the production process does not use water, as is the case for the production of all other types of paper, but rather air, with obvious benefit to the environment.

Airlaid is obtained starting from long fibers of pure cellulose, blown on mats and, through multiple passes between rollers and ovens, which reach a temperature of up to 200 degrees, the fibers are “bonded” together and reinforced by non-toxic resins. Such a unique technology gives the resulting products such special characteristics as absorbency (up to 7 times its weight), high strength and the possibility of being used repeatedly, both dry and wet. In addition, Airlaid can be “embossed”: at the end of processing, a design can be imprinted on it, which can be different depending on the uses for which it is produced, such as double “SS” and dotted for the wellness sector, smooth or “NG” for the HO.RE.CA sector, always maintaining the characteristics of softness and pleasantness to the touch.

Spunlace production

Spunlace, or Nonwoven Fabric, originates from a complex manufacturing process called “Spunlace” or “Hydroentanglement,” in which thin jets of high-pressure water are used to penetrate the web of fibers lying on a conveyor belt, and bouncing off it causes the fibers themselves to become entangled.

Nonwoven Fabrics” can be of different fibrous compositions, from those that are exclusively synthetic, such as polyester and polypropylene, to the more natural such as viscose, which is compostable and biodegradable. Spunlace is a material that stands out for its softness and strength, and it is increasingly finding wide use in a variety of sectors, from personal and professional hygiene to aesthetics, wellness and medical.

From dry paper jumbo reels, or spunlace, IMET, through unwinding, cutting and folding in a machine, obtains a product individually folded in 4, 8 or “Z”, in the size and number of pieces required, packaged under its own brand or with private label, satisfying the many needs and demands of customers.

IMET takes care of the customization of the wrapping and packaging: packaging with printing or inner flyer; outer wrapping with anonymous or printed cardboard. Ideal products for beauty salons, hairdressers, SPAs, wellness, health, professional hygiene, HO.RE.CA. sectors
